Three Types Of Deformation Joints In Steel Structure Workshops

1. Expansion joints

If the length or width of a steel structure factory is too large, when the temperature changes, the upper structure of the horizontal or vertical frame will undergo a large expansion and contraction deformation, while the foundation remains fixed in its original position. This deformation will cause a large internal force inside components such as columns and walls, which may cause them to be damaged or broken. Therefore, expansion joints are used to divide the steel structure factory into several temperature sections to reduce the expansion and contraction of each section.

 

2. Seismic joints

When a steel structure factory building is located in an earthquake zone, its expansion joints should also meet the requirements of seismic joints. In addition, when the plane and elevation of the steel structure factory building are complex, or are composed of parts with large differences in height or stiffness, seismic joints should also be used to separate parts with different stiffness.

 

3. Settlement joints

Settlement joints are used when the height, load, foundation system or crane lifting weight of adjacent parts of a steel structure plant are very different, or when there are serious differences in foundation conditions, to prevent the structure or roof, wall, etc. from being damaged or cracked due to excessive uneven foundation settlement. Settlement joints are generally made by separating the structures on both sides of the joint, including the foundation, so that each can settle freely and independently. Settlement joints should meet the requirements of expansion joints and seismic joints, and play the role of both joints.
